Books and Journals

The library maintains a book collection which can be accessed through our online library catalog. All computer stations in the library have links to the catalog. The library catalog is browsable online. Books may be borrowed for a period of two weeks. Your hospital ID card is your library card. Please make sure you are wearing your ID badge when you visit the library. Please return books promptly - our collection is not large, and others may be waiting for the materials you have borrowed.

Pastoral Care

nun and patientAs a Catholic faith-based institution founded and sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, we nurture the spiritual, as well as the medical needs of our patients and their families. We recognize faith as a prime mover and as an essential part of our healing ministry. The Pastoral Care Department provides information, consultation, and education that support and enable care of the whole person—care that provides not only for people’s physical needs, but also for their emotional and spiritual needs.

 
 

  • Reflect the religious and cultural diversity of our health care community
  • Are a vital component of the health care team
  • Provide services to patients/residents, families, and staff
  • Are available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day
  • Collaborate with community clergy and lay ministers
  • Have training in pastoral counseling, bereavement, aging, crisis intervention, and end-of-life issues
  • All are invited to use the hospital/nursing home Chapel for prayer
  • Shabbot Room and Shabbot Elevator available at St. Joseph’s Paterson
  • Muslim prayer room available at St. Joseph’s Paterson and St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center.

Prader-Willi Center

The Prader-Willi Center provides outpatient multidisciplinary care for children, adolescents and adults with Prader-Willi syndrome. The center offers the services of endocrinologists, geneticists, nutritionists, developmental pediatricians and psychologists, as well as other necessary healthcare providers.

The center provides comprehensive services, including:

  • Confirmation of diagnosis
  • Ongoing physical assessments
  • Monitoring of growth and development
  • Dietary evaluations and counseling
  • Developmental and educational evaluations
  • Endocrine testing and treatment (growth hormone therapy, thyroid and glucose screening)
  • Genetic counseling
  • Patient and family education and support
  • Consultations with pediatric psychologists

O’Neill Center

St. Joseph’s is contracted with the Division of Children and Family Services to provide therapeutic supervised visitation. The O’Neill Center will provide therapeutically supervised visitation for special needs children conducted by an Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) supervised by an LCSW. The social workers will conduct therapeutic supervised visitations five days a week. The case manager will assist the social worker during visitation, as well as observe and intervene as appropriate with each family. Monthly reports are sent via NJ Spirit. Reports will contain observations in narrative format with recommendations. Pending schedule availability, transportation to and from the center (via the center vans) will be accessible and provided for any child living in the cities of Passaic, Paterson and Clifton. Arrangements for those outside of these areas are on a case-by-case decision.

On a case-by-case basis, some in-home therapeutically supervised visits will take place.

Consultations will be limited to the Bergen/Passaic area. Services provided by the O’Neill Center are by the Division of Children and Family Services and are by referral only.

The Epilepsy Center at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center is a NAEC Level 3 Epilepsy Center where care is provided by Board Certified Epileptologists. EEG services are provided in our ABRET registered EEG Lab. The center offers comprehensive diagnostic services which include:

  • Inpatient and outpatient Routine EEG
  • Ambulatory EEG
  • Long Term Video Monitoring
