St. Joseph’s Wayne Awarded Primary Stroke Center Designation

As a part of our ongoing efforts to enhance services to our surrounding communities, we are proud to announce that St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center has been designated by the State of New Jersey as a Primary Stroke Care Center. This special status is only given to hospitals that meet strict national guidelines for the rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke and have acute stroke teams available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“The designation of our stroke program provides us the opportunity to highlight the exceptional care we provide on our Wayne Campus and our efforts to advance our services even further,” says Jennifer Mendrzycki,Vice President and Site Executive of St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds; someone dies from a stroke every 4 minutes; and 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year. These statistics make it clear why quick diagnosis and treatment of stroke, along with a specially trained acute stroke team is so critical.

“Designation is a comprehensive process and I commend everyone involved for successfully undertaking this challenge to elevate our standard of care and instill confidence in the communities we serve,” adds Jennifer Mendrzycki. “This is yet another example of the many great things happening at our Wayne Hospital.”
