Portraying the Range of Patient Care

SJHS_StatuePaterson, NJ [April 26, 2011] - The 12-foot high bronze sculpture that graces the new main entrance to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, designed and created by J. Michael Larsen of Perkins, Oklahoma, portrays the range of patient care provided at St. Joseph's Healthcare System through the figures of a surgeon, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, as well as young and elderly patients. Each figure faces one of the four compass directions representing solidity with the Sister facing true north gazing toward the entrance of the hospital. The sculpture will be repositioned at the center of the main entry courtyard when construction of the circular driveway is completed.

Paterson, NJ [April 22, 2010] - The Project Ladybug Fund at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, founded by Dina Manzo of Bravo's "The Real Housewives of New Jersey," has been enriching the lives of seriously ill pediatric patients and their families at SJCH in Paterson, NJ since 2007. Through a number of ongoing initiatives including day trips, birthday parties and financial assistance to families in need, the organization has performed miracles for patients in the children's hospital. In recognition of their important work, Mayor Jose "Joey" Torres of Paterson has proclaimed the month of May "Ladybug Month" in order to raise awareness of the cause and promote the newest undertaking by Project Ladybug: a playground on the grounds of St. Joseph's Children's Hospital for patients who cannot afford a day away from the hospital due to treatment and ongoing care.

SJCH Launches ArtWorks Intensive CAIR Program

Paterson, NJ [April 15, 2010] - On April 13, 2010, ArtWorks introduced Intensive Creative Artists In Residence (Intensive CAIR), a program that brings quality creative arts workshops in the hospital setting for children and young adults suffering from chronic and life-threatening conditions and their families, to St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Paterson, NJ. Intensive CAIR workshop leaders are professional artists that are trained to work with the pediatric population in the hospital setting. Intensive CAIR enables individuals to engage in creative expression while confined to the hospital. Results have proven that collaborative creative arts activities serve to reduce stress and anxiety, decrease attention to pain and normalize the hospital experience for the young patients and their families.

SJRMC Medical Staff Scholarship Recipient Announced

SJRMC Medical Staff ScholarshipPaterson, NJ (April 15, 2010)– The Medical Staff at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center (SJRMC), a member of St. Joseph's Healthcare System, in Paterson, New Jersey, is pleased to name Jelyssa E. Mejia as the recipient of the 2010 Medical Staff Scholarship. This prestigious scholarship is offered annually to a graduating high school student who is a child or legal dependent of a SJRMC employee carrying a 3.0 or above GPA and is planning to pursue a medical career. The scholarship is a $2,000 a year award, renewable for up to four years.

 

Jelyssa, who plans to study Pre-med and major in Biology, aspires to one-day practice medicine in the field of Neonatology. She is shown with Walid J. Baddoura, MD, President of the St. Joseph's Healthcare System Medical Staff. Jelyssa is the daughter of Luisa Rodriguez, a Dental Assistant in the St. Joseph's Family Health Center (a division of St. Joseph's Healthcare System).
