PATERSON, NJ [FEBRUARY 24, 2009]- Sister Rosemary Smith, S.C., has been selected as the new Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of St. Joseph's Healthcare System in Paterson, NJ.

I look forward to working with the St. Joseph's Board and the Healthcare System family in the years ahead."
Sister Rosemary Smith, a Sister of Charity, currently serves as Assistant General Superior of her Congregation. Prior to this, from 2001 - 2007, she was Senior Vice President for Sponsorship with the Bon Secours Health System, Marriottsville, Maryland. Sister Rosemary has also been an adjunct professor of canon law; a judge in diocesan and interdiocesan tribunals and director of the diocesan tribunal; Vicar for Religious; canonical consultant to religious institutes, and has held various leadership positions in her religious congregation. She has published numerous articles in the field of canon law and is co-author of the interdisciplinary study, Women and Jurisdiction: An Unfolding Reality and co-editor of the recent Sponsorship in the US Context: Theory and Praxis.
Sister Rosemary holds a BA in mathematics, an MA in English literature and a doctorate in canon law.
Sister Rosemary succeeds Sister Jacqueline Burns, S.C., who retired as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of St. Joseph's Healthcare System, a position she held for nearly a decade. Sister Jacqueline is recognized as a dynamic leader who spearheaded the integration, redirection and revitalization of the Healthcare System.
