Acute Rehabiliation Unit: Individualized Care and Recovery

The St. Joseph’s Health Acute Rehabilitation Unit, located within St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center, is the only rehabilitation facility of its kind in Passaic County. Located in a hospital setting, the Unit offers comprehensive rehabilitative services for patients in need of intensive medical rehabilitation. An interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals work with the patient and family to develop a plan of care that meets each individual’s needs for a safe return to their community.

Patients served on the Acute Rehabilitation Unit include adults with the following diagnoses:

  • Stroke
  • Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Hip Fractures
  • Congenital Deformities
  • Amputations
  • Brain Injury
  • Neurologic Disorders, including: Multiple Sclerosis, Polyneuropathy, Muscular Dystrophy and Parkinson’s Disease
  • Burns
  • Acute Flare Up of Arthritis
  • Joint Replacements
  • Major Multiple Trauma

Regain Strength and Motion

The Acute Rehabilitation Unit’s Board-certified Medical Director supervises the care provided to all patients. Physicians with a range of clinical specialties are also available to evaluate and treat patients with multiple medical conditions. The interdisciplinary approach to care includes:

  • Rehabilitation Nursing
  • Physical Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Case Management and Social Work Services
  • Other Services: All of St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center clinical and therapuetic services are available to patients. These include pastoral care, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, laboratory, diabetes education, wound care, diagnostic sleep laboratory, driver rehabilitation, and all other diagnostic and treatment services.
