Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center are available around-the-clock to respond to any psychiatric emergency presenting in the emergency room (ER).

Patients or family members in distress, who present to the ER at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center or St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center, are evaluated and referred to appropriate services. Patients at St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center are evaluated by telepsychiatry.

Victims of domestic violence, who present to the ER due to injury, can obtain a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) while in the ER 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week.

Crisis clinicians and an on-call psychiatrist are available 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week.

Designated as the Passaic County Screening Center, this program provides emergency psychiatric evaluations, screening and referrals through the 24-hr crisis hotline and mobile outreaches to the community, as well as offering crisis services to the Passaic County Jail.
