Deaf Specialty Services

The Deaf Specialty Services program is a new residential program serving five deaf and hard of hearing youth, ages 12 to 21. This program is located on the grounds of the New Jersey School for the Deaf/Katzenbach in West Trenton, NJ.

Our team of professionals incorporates an integrated approach toward the goal of returning adolescents to their homes, staying in school and keeping out of trouble. The ASL-fluent staff provides an array of services in a culturally affirmative environment that supports deaf culture, as well as the culture of the child’s family. Through a variety of activities, youth of the program explore social, recreational and vocational opportunities via linkages with community service providers, including close collaboration with Katzenbach. Families are also engaged in support services and therapeutic activities designed for the goal of a successful return home of their child.

The efforts of the team are expected to result in improved coping/problem-solving strategies, emotional stability, educational performance and improved social competence in each adolescent.
