Urogynecology - Health Tips

Presenting Sam H. Hessami, MD, FACOG, Urogynecologist, St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, discussing urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.
Urogyncecology is a subspecialty field of gynecology and obstetrics that deals with conditions of pelvic fluid disorders which includes urgency, frequency, urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapsed. Pelvic Organ Prolapse includes dropped bladder uterus, or small bowel as well as rectum into the vagina. The two biggest risk factors are aging and pregnancy. Urinary incontinence and pelvic prolapsed issues affect 1 of 11 women, the incidents are under reported because most hospitals feel incapable of addressing these options. At St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center there is a special department to address these issues providing treatment in the forms of Pessary, Pelvic Floor Exercises, Anti-Incontinence Sling Surgery, and robotic surgery.
