Concussions in Girls Sports - Health Tips

In a study by Ohio State and looking at girls soccer and basketball, they found that girls concussion rates are greatly larger than boys in both sports. Girls injuries are predominantly head and face bumps and bruises where boys had higher concussion rates. 73% of head injuries in boys were concussions and 40% were concussions in girls. In girls lacrosse contact is banned and yet girls still experience a high rate of concussions. Working with coaches is important for safe play as well as working with referees to enforce rules put in place. Multiple concussion instances can be even more disastrous especially in succession and protection is key for girls in dangerous situations.
