Rehabilitation

A full menu of Rehabilitation Medicine Services is available across St. Joseph's Healthcare System. Providing treatment from the acute care setting to acute rehabilitation and outpatient services, our team offers expertise across a continuum of care.

Services are provided to the pediatric through geriatric population. Each of our patients receives a thorough evaluation and an individualized plan of care to improve performance at home, school, and work, as well as during sporting activities.

Occupational Therapy

At the Department of Occupational Therapy, we care for those whose lives have been disrupted by physical injury, illness or social, developmental, and psychological difficulties. We focus on fine motor activities and improving cognitive abilities.

Driver Rehabilitation Program

The Driver Rehabilitation Program at St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital is designed to assist individuals with disabilities, medical conditions or changes related to aging remain safe and independent in driving and community mobility.

The program begins with a clinical evaluation that assesses the underlying skills needed for safe driving, including a:

Visual screen (such as, acuity and contrast sensitivity)
Physical screen (such as, strength, range of motion, driver-vehicle fit and reaction time)
Cognitive perceptual screen (such as, attention, decision making and problem solving)
Road sign recognition and road situation identification

North Jersey Swallowing Center

The North Jersey Swallowing Center conveniently located at both St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson and St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital, provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment to adults who have difficulty feeding or swallowing. Established in 1983, the center helps inpatients and outpatients from the tri-state area.

Physical Therapy

As a part of a complete rehabilitation team, the Physical Therapy program at St. Joseph's Healthcare System offers comprehensive rehabilitation care to assist our patients in improving their quality of life through a variety of care options.
