We are a state designated comprehensive Sickle Cell Center.
Our program has established a set of evidence-based medical guidelines for the treatment of Sickle Cell Disease. These incorporate the standards set by the AAP, as well as the addition of other laboratory and radiologic monitoring, that have proven to be clinically significant in this population. All children with sickle cell disease are followed on a regular basis to ensure that the most current necessary diagnostic testing and treatment is utilized to minimize the adverse effects of the disease. Our multidisciplinary team includes physicians, nurses, social workers and child life specialists who manage patients with pain in a outpatient setting, many times avoiding the need for admissions.
