Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center/St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital is a 16-bed recovery area located adjacent to the operating suites. The PACU at St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital is a 8-bed recovery area, also located adjacent to the operating suites. The exclusive activity of these highly specialized units is to recover from various forms of anesthesia/sedation used during surgical interventions, pain management exclusive of open-heart surgery, neonatal surgery and selected critical care patients. Specific dedicated units are available for these later cases.
Patients receive initial assessment upon admission to the PACU. This includes respiratory circulatory function, pain level and level of consciousness assessments. Vital signs are continually monitored and assessed and pain is assessed upon arrival and re-assessed frequently.
At St. Joseph’s, we pride ourselves on offering a compassionate, safe and comfortable environment to meet the emergency, preventive and restorative health needs of all those in need.
