The Emergency Medicine residency program is an intensive three-year training that prepares the resident to be fully prepared to practice independently in all aspects of emergency medicine. With an exciting teaching faculty comprised of Board Certified/Board Eligible EM facult, who are from various training programs from across the country, the Emergency Medicine program is fully accredited by the AOA and ACOEP. Rotations Thirteen four-week rotations each year (subject to changed): Emergency Medicine (Paterson and Wayne) Pediatric Emergency Medicine Trauma MICU PICU ENT Neurology Orthopedics Anesthesiology Research/Administration EMS OB/GYN Toxicology Ultrasound/Radiology Infectious Disease Vacation (two 2 week blocks each year) Students on Emergency Medicine Rotation will work eighteen (18) shifts in the Emergency Department. These shifts will be schedule in either the main Adult Emergency Department or in the Non-Critical Emergency Care section of the Adult Emergency Department and will be eight (8) hour shifts, unless approved by the Emergency Medicine Program Director in advance. The student will be assigned to shifts across the spectrum of the day. Main Emergency Department shifts are 7 am to 3 pm; 3 pm to 11 pm; and 11 pm to 7 am. Non-Critical Emergency Care shifts will be 10 am to 6 pm. All students will be expected to work at least 2 night shifts (11 pm to 7 am) and at least 2 weekend shifts (Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday). Overall, student hours will not exceed fifty hours per week; including time spent in Emergency Medicine Educational Conferences. The week period begins on Monday and ends on Sunday. Students work at the following affiliated training sites: St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, 120 beds St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital, 229 beds NYC Poison Control Center, Bellevue Hospital JFK Hospital, Edison, NJ (Neurology) Academic Activities EM Core Curriculum Conference every Wednesday (5 hrs) Emergency Medicine Grand Rounds (monthly) In-house “Introduction to Research Course (12 hrs) One research project per year ACOEP CPC Competition AOA Convention NJ ACEP Scientific Assembly AROC Jacobi Trauma Conference Bellevue Toxicology Lectures ATLS, PALS, ACLS, BLS Dedicated ER Sonosite ultrasound machine* *Regularly scheduled, hands-on ultrasound lectures with bedside didactics to increase our knowledge and ability to utilize this emerging technology in the Emergency Department. |
