Cardiovascular Services
Recognized by the American Heart Association for the quality of its programs, “The Heart Center at St. Joseph’s” received a total of nine Get With The GuidelinesSM awards between January 2006 and July 2007, placing it as one of the top ten hospitals in the nation. The program provides advanced invasive and non-invasive diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation services including cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, EPS and cardiac surgery. In 2007, the Center performed 398 cardiac surgeries, 3,608 catheterizations and 1,049 angioplasties. In addition, the Women’s Heart Center in Paterson and Wayne provide cardiac screening and diagnostic services customized to the needs of women.
Obstetrics/Gynecology
St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center is a state designated Regional Perinatal Care facility operating a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit since 1979. This designation permits the hospital to provide treatment for the highest risk deliveries as well as newborns requiring the most intensive specialized care due to low birth weight and medical problems. As a member of the Northwest NJ Perinatal Consortium, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center accepts all high-risk neonate and maternal patient transfers from over 12 area community hospitals. In 2007, the hospital delivered 3,392 babies with 868 treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, including 175 babies transferred from other area hospitals for specialized high-risk neonatal services.
Renal Dialysis A leader in the delivery of renal and hemodialysis care since 1971, the System provides a wide range of advanced services to people of all ages, from infants to geriatric patients. With a team of fourteen nephrologists, we offer comprehensive inpatient services (14 treatment stations), the largest hospital-based outpatient dialysis center in the State (60 treatment stations) and a renal clinic located at the Paterson campus, as well as another dialysis center (20 treatment stations) in Wayne. In 1994, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center was designated by the New Jersey Legislature and State Department of Health as the Children’s Hospital for Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, and Warren Counties. The Children’s Hospital at St. Joseph’s provides comprehensive inpatient services including a 38-bed pediatric unit, a 10-bed adolescent medicine unit, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with 30 intensive care and 20 intermediate care bassinets, a 6-bed pediatric intensive care unit, a 6-bed step-down unit as well as extensive pediatric outpatient and subspecialty services. The pediatric intensive care unit is a major referral center for critically ill children and trauma victims from throughout northern New Jersey. The Children’s Hospital at St. Joseph’s is a State approved site for pediatric cardiac catheterizations and open-heart surgery. Trauma/Emergency In 1994, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center received designation as a Level II Trauma Center and is equipped to handle critically injured patients 24 hours a day. The Emergency Services Department is staffed 24 hours a day and provides access to all of St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center’s specialty services. The Department also includes a separate Pediatric Emergency Service staffed 24 hours with board certified pediatric emergency physicians. In 2007 the hospital treated over 89,000 emergency room encounters of which 805 where classified as trauma cases. St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital operates a full service Level I Emergency Department offering Advanced Life Support diagnostic and treatment services. The facility is also connected to the St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center facility via telemedicine to provide immediate subspecialty consultation services as necessary. In 2007 the Hospital treated approximately 26,000 emergency room encounters. Oncology Accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a Community Cancer Center, the System’s cancer program offers adult and pediatric comprehensive cancer diagnostic and treatment services to cancer patients. Diagnostic services include PET Scan, MRI and 64-Slice CT, with Board-Certified Pathologists specializing in Cancer diagnosis. Cancer treatment services include Infusion and Radiation Therapy with intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) technology as well as board-certified Oncology Medical and Surgical specialists. Patients also have access to the latest research protocols through affiliations with St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Mount Sinai Medical Center and New York-Presbyterian Hospital. In 2007, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center screened approximately 1,468 low-income men and women for breast, cervical and prostate cancer through its State funded Cancer Education Evaluation and Detection Program (CEED). In 2008, the State approved a grant of $650,000 to expand the number of individuals screened through this program. Geriatrics Operating under St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, St. Vincent’s Nursing Home, provides long-term skilled nursing care as well as an adult medical day care program for people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. The 151-bed facility is operated under the direction of a board-certified geriatrician and offers onsite therapeutic services such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy. In addition, geriatric acute care services are offered at both St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center and St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital’s facilities with each offering dedicated Geriatric Special Care Nursing Units which follows the Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders (NICHE) care protocols designed to meet the needs of this special patient population. Behavioral Health A leader in Behavioral Health Services, the System provides a wide range of programs and facilities that enable consumers of mental health services to function at the highest level possible. With a mission focused on serving all those in need, outstanding treatment, assessment, consultation, support, and community outreach services are available to adults, adolescents, and children. These include psychiatric hospital-based adult inpatient services and psychiatric emergency services. Special programs include:
Medicine Under the Departments of Internal and Family Medicine, the System operates comprehensive care services for General Medicine as well as Neurology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, Pulmonary, Endocrinology, and Rheumatology. In 2007, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center was licensed by the Department of Health and Senior Services as a Comprehensive Stroke Center as well as accredited by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center. Surgery Our interdisciplinary surgical team, including anesthesiologists and pediatric anesthesiologists, is committed to providing comprehensive, fully compassionate surgical care on both an inpatient and outpatient (ambulatory) basis to adult and pediatric patients, including the neonate. Surgical procedures are performed in modern operating rooms with a focus on providing leading edge services, such as computer-assisted navigation techniques for Neuro and Orthopaedic surgery. Surgical Services include cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, vascular and endo-vascular surgery, neurosurgery, breast surgery, oncologic surgery, orthopaedic surgery including hand surgery and spine surgery, trauma surgery, craniofacial surgery, maxillofacial/dental surgery, ENT surgery, urologic surgery, colorectal surgery, plastic surgery, and minimally invasive surgery. |
