Luxury Hotel Coming to Paterson

PATERSON, NJ (May 25, 2010) - St. Joseph’s Healthcare System, MMC Worldwide, and the City of Paterson jointly announced the development of a new state-of-the-art hotel and parking structure to be constructed on the grounds of St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.

“The Medical Missions for Children (MMC) Hyatt Place Hotel at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center is the first select hotel in several decades to be built in Paterson, and the only major hotel in a five-mile radius.  The development of the hotel and parking structure is a tribute to the success of Paterson’s city-wide revitalization process,” said William A. McDonald, President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Joseph’s Healthcare System. “It is an economic stimulus project that will have a long-term positive impact on the City of Paterson and the region.  In addition, the hotel will provide facilities that will benefit St. Joseph’s patients, their families, our staff, and visitors to the City.”  Mr. McDonald is featured with (from left), Frank Brady, Founder and Chairman of MMC Worldwide; Jose “joey” Torres, Mayor of the City of Paterson; and Kenneth Morris, Jr., Councilman at Large, City of Paterson.

The 16-story MMC Hyatt Place Hotel at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center is made possible due to a partnership between MMC Worldwide, St. Joseph’s Healthcare System, and the City of Paterson.  The hotel will include a total of 130 standard hotel lodging and short-term stay apartments, condominiums, a conference/ special events center, dining facilities, a health club, a rooftop terrace, retail space, and more than 200 parking spaces within the structure. Conveniently located less than a half mile from Route 80, the hotel will be developed and owned by MultiMedia Concepts LLC, one of the operating companies under the MMC Worldwide umbrella, and operated by the Hyatt Corporation.   “It is a privilege for MMC Worldwide to participate with the leadership of the City of Paterson and St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in such a timely and relevant economic development project.  The hotel is certain to offer the type and quality of amenities that meet the needs of a variety of different traveler types – family members of patients at the regional medical center, business professionals, and tourists.  The new hotel will also serve as ideal venue for business conferences, wedding celebrations, banquets and the like,” said Frank Brady, Founder and Chairman of MMC Worldwide.  He also added that “of great significance is that the proceeds from the use of the MMC Hyatt Place Hotel will be used to support MMC’s charitable mission of improving medical outcomes for our world’s most critically ill children.”

In a separate, but adjacent project that is a component of St. Joseph’s Healthcare System’s master facilities investment plan, St. Joseph’s will build a new 1,120-space parking garage that will be located at the southeast end of the Paterson campus. This will complement the $170 million hospital expansion and renovation project at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center that began in 2008 and is scheduled for completion in 2012.  The St. Joseph’s parking garage project, scheduled to begin this summer, will precede the construction of the MMC Hyatt Place Hotel at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. The parking garage project will take approximately 15 months.

“The City of Paterson is pleased to partner with St. Joseph’s Healthcare System and Medical Missions Worldwide to improve the quality of life for all who live, play, work and visit Paterson,” noted Paterson Mayor Jose “joey” Torres.  “There are many improvement projects visible in the City.  In the south end of Paterson, this includes the beautiful pocket park across the street from St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center and the construction of St. Joseph’s new Critical Care Building.  The new MMC Hyatt Place Hotel at St. Joseph’s and adjacent parking structure are also essential components to the City of Paterson’s revitalization process.”
