Fold together for an exquisite experience of culinary delights raising more than $200,000 for St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital.
On Monday, April 30th, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital hosted the fifth annual “Cooking for Kids: Gourmet Fare from Everywhere!” This signature tasting event took place at the Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel, and featured samples of dishes and drinks from the region’s top restaurants and beverage purveyors.
Presented by Nutley Park ShopRite, the evening was a celebration of national and local chefs coming together for a great cause. Guest of Honor Lidia Bastianich, acclaimed television personality, chef, restaurateur, and best-selling cookbook author, once again welcomed other celebrity chefs and guests. Special guest Jim Weaver, executive chef and owner of Princeton’s Tre-Piani and co-founder of Slow Food Central New Jersey, signed his newly released book, Locavore Adventures.
This year’s event focused on the importance of eating locally and supporting restaurants that include ingredients from local farms. Participating chefs included official chef to the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games Scott Cutaneo of www.GreatScottChef.com; Chef Ryan DePersio of Fascino in Montclair, Bar Cara in Bloomfield, NJ and NICO Kitchen + Bar in Newark; “Top Chef” contestant Chef Ariane Duarte of CulinAriane in Montclair, NJ; the winner of the Food Network’s “Chopped,” Chef Michael Carrino from the former Restaurant Passionné in Montclair, and soon-to-be-opened Pig & Prince Restaurant and Gastro Lounge; Chef Ninamarie Bojekian, who recently was named “Ultimate Chef of Bergen County;” and Food Network "Chopped" Champion Chef Eric B. LeVine from Morris Tap & Grill. The event also featured wines from Gary’s Wine & Marketplace.
St. Joseph’s would like to extend a special thank you to the 2012 Cooking for Kids Co-Chairs Stacey Tsapatsaris and Dr. Dorothy Myridakis, along with all the members of the Steering Committee, who shared their passion, creativity and resources to make this event truly extraordinary.
