PATERSON, NJ (December 6, 2012) – The St. Joseph's Children's Hospital Pediatric Subspecialties Center at Wayne officially opened on December 4, 2012, as local civic leaders joined St. Joseph's Healthcare System administrators, religious leaders, and physicians at a reception that featured words of welcome; a Blessing; a ribbon cutting; and tours of the new facility.

St. Joseph's Pediatric Subspecialties Center at Wayne offers young patients and their parents an array of clinical specialty expertise provided by Board-certified pediatrician-specialists in their fields of Allergy/Immunology, Child Development, Child and Adolescent Psychology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Neurology and Pulmonology/Sleep Medicine. The center is conveniently located at 1350 Route 23 North – easily accessible from Routes 287, 80 and 46.

"Pediatric subspecialties services are not very common," said Michael Lamacchia, MD, Chairman, Pediatrics, St. Joseph's Children's Hospital (SJCH), a member of St. Joseph's Healthcare System, sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth. "It is our mission at St. Joseph's to be close to our patients," he explained, discussing the importance of providing St. Joseph's high level of pediatric expertise and responsive compassionate care on campus at the Children's Hospital in Paterson and at subspecialties centers in the communities served by the Healthcare System. St. Joseph's Children's Hospital opened the Pediatric Subspecialties Center in Hoboken (2011), another subspecialties center on Century Road in Paramus (May, 2012), and looks forward to the addition of a pediatric ambulatory surgery center in Fair Lawn in 2013.

Fr. Martin Rooney, Director, Mission Services, St. Joseph's Healthcare System, offered the Blessing and reflected on the healing mission of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, the founders and sponsors of St. Joseph's Healthcare System. "This will be a place of comfort and strength...as physicians and staff open their hearts and their minds to these young people in need and that these children will experience healing, comfort, and humor."

Christopher Vergano welcomed St. Joseph's Children's Hospital to Wayne Township saying, "we are certainly very happy you're here at this great location... and providing a great service to our residents."

Assemblyman Scott Rumana added, "It is a comfort to know that a children's specialized program is right here in our backyard."
