Manny E. Christakos, MD, Honored at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center 36th Annual Charity Ball

Christakos 1PATERSON, NJ [OCTOBER 18, 2012] – The St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) Foundation, the fundraising arm of St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center and St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Paterson, NJ, is honored to announce that Manny E. Christakos, MD, was presented with the prestigious Kendrick P. Lance, MD Distinguished Physician Award during the 36th Annual Charity Ball on October 27th. This year's event was held at Gotham Hall in New York City.


Dr. Christakos was selected for this award due to his key role as a physician-leader and outstanding efforts on behalf of St. Joseph's. He joined the Medical Staff of St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in 1980 and since then has been an integral member of the institution as one of the System's most distinguished physicians and surgeons.


After Dartmouth College, where he majored in Chemistry, Dr. Christakos attended the School of Medicine at SUNY Buffalo. He interned and performed his residency at the Erie County Medical Center at SUNY and completed a Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship through the University of California at Irvine. He received his certification by the American Board of Surgery in 1976 and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery in 1982.


Dr. Christakos served as a Major in the United States Air Force from 1976 to 1980, and from 1980 to 1984, he served as the Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at UMDNJ in Newark and the VA Hospital in East Orange, NJ.


His professional achievements include having served as the President of the New Jersey Society of Thoracic Surgery from 2007 to 2008, as well as having been recognized as one of "New Jersey's Best Doctors" in 2006 and one of Castle Connolly Medical Ltd's "Best Doctors" every year since 2006.


Dr. Christakos is currently in private practice at North Jersey Thoracic and Cardiovascular Associates of Clifton and is also an admitting physician at St. Joseph's.


He and his wife, Dr. Sylvia Stavropoulos Christakos, are residents of Mendham, NJ. They are the parents of 3 children - Constantine, Andreas and Athena.
