SJWH Hosts 18th Annual Feliciano Memorial Lecture

Vincent Feliciano, MDWayne, NJ [March 4, 2010]– Harvey J. Sugerman, MD, FACS, Emeritus Professor of Surgery, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Editor-in-Chief, "Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases", will deliver the 18th Annual Vincent Feliciano, MD, Memorial Lecture on Saturday, March 20th in the Meyer Conference Center at St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital (SJWH) in Wayne, NJ, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Dr. Sugerman will speak on "Effects of Surgical Weight Loss on Obesity Co-Morbidities."

SJWH Receives CHSF Grant

SJWH Receives CHSF GrantWayne, NJ [February 23, 2010] – St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital (SJWH) recently received a grant from the Catholic Human Services Foundation of $14,543 to purchase new chairs for the Emergency Department waiting room. The new furniture will allow SJWH to accommodate more patients with comfortable seating while they wait for treatment or for a loved one receiving treatment.

Like most hospitals in New Jersey, St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital is experiencing an increase in the number of patients utilizing the services offered through the Emergency Department. The new furniture is part of a greater plan to completely redesign the waiting room space.

Stroke Survival Recovery Group at SJWH

Wayne, NJ [February 23, 2010] – St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital (SJWH) offers a Stroke Survival Recovery Group for stroke patients, their families and other caregivers on the 2nd Monday of each month. The group meets from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the Outpatient Rehabilitation Medicine Department (located on the 1st Floor near the Emergency Department). The meetings provide support for stroke survivors by offering them an opportunity to hear other survivor's stories and learn strategies for taking on a new way of life. In addition, attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions or share their feelings and knowledge with others facing similar issues. Linda Pisarri, Occupational Therapist, SJWH, will facilitate the meetings. To register, or for additional information, please call 973.956.3360.

SVNH Hosts Bake Sale for Haiti

SVNH Hosts Bake Sale for HaitiCedar Grove, NJ (February 3, 2010) – St. Vincent's Nursing Home(SVNH) staff, residents and family members rallied together recently to host a bake sale fundraiser to help those in need in Haiti. Delicious baked goods were donated by staff members, and sold by residents to a delighted crowd at the long-term care facility in Cedar Grove, New Jersey. The SVNH team raised a total of $233, which will be donated to the joint St. Joseph's Healthcare System/Catholic Relief Services Haiti relief fund.

Among those who participated are (left to right): St. Vincent's Nursing Home staff members Jacqueline Colao, Social Worker; Martha Agnello, Administrative Secretary; Nancy Vila, Housekeeping; Stella Ritacco, Rehabilitation Medicine; Claire Schwaner, Receptionist; Varry Washington, Unit Clerk; and Danny Boyd, Maintenance. Seated are St. Vincent's Nursing Home residents Emma Geronimo and Marie Faust. Marie is the President of the Resident Council at St. Vincent's Nursing Home.

SJCH Receives Visit from Elmo

SJCH Receives Visit from ElmoPaterson, NJ (FEBRUARY 3, 2010) – Pediatric patients at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, in Paterson, New Jersey, were filled with joy and laughter recently when they received a special visit from the popular Sesame Street character Elmo. Patients were equally excited to meet Kevin Clash, the voice of the adorable red child favorite. Isabella Riggs, 7, was among the many patients who had the opportunity to interact with Elmo and Kevin. Each child also received a gift on behalf of Elmo and Kevin.
