Paterson, NJ (April 12, 2010) – The St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center Foundation announced today that Phil Simms, sports analyst and football legend, will serve as celebrity spokesperson and co-chairman of Champions for Children at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital. Located on the Paterson, New Jersey campus of St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph's Children's Hospital is one of the busiest and most comprehensive state designated pediatric hospitals in the state. "It makes perfect sense that Phil Simms, a true champion, local hero, and father of three, who is passionate about children's health, has joined the St. Joseph's Children's Hospital advocacy team. Mr. Simms has offered to lead our Champions for Children program with Foundation Board member and program co-chair, Greg Lockard," said Timothy P. Barr, Vice President, St. Joseph's Healthcare System, and Executive Director, St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center Foundation.

SJCH Receives Yummy DonationPaterson, NJ (March 29, 2010) – St. Joseph's Children's Hospital (SJCH) at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson recently received a special donation from Brownie Troop 516 from Bradford School in Montclair. The Troop donated 70 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit as part of their "Gift of Caring" project. SJWH 18th Annual Feliciano Memorial LectureWayne, NJ [March 29, 2010] – Harvey J. Sugerman, MD, FACS, Emeritus Professor of Surgery, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Editor-in-Chief, "Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases", delivered the 18th Annual Vincent Feliciano, MD, Memorial Lecture at St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital (SJWH), entitled "Effects of Surgical Weight Loss on Obesity Co-Morbidities". Approximately 50 guests, including members of the St. Joseph's medical staffs, former colleagues, friends and family of Dr. Feliciano were in attendance. The Memorial Lecture is held annually at SJWH and is sponsored by the Feliciano Family, The SJWH Foundation and Department of Surgery.

SJHS Hosts Mini Symposium for Law Enforcement Personnel

SJHS Hosts Mini SymposiumPaterson, NJ [March 22, 2010]- St. Joseph's Healthcare System's (SJHS) Emergency Medicine Department, including Trauma Services and the Special Operations Team, hosted a special mini-symposium entitled "Field Hemorrhage Control and Use of Hemostatic Agents for Law Enforcement Personnel". The event, which included presentations by five St. Joseph's Healthcare System Emergency Medicine experts, was held at the Passaic County Community College Public Safety Academy in Wayne, New Jersey and was the result of many inquiries regarding the best methods for wound care, hemorrhage control, and the use of hemostatic agents. Attendees included members from local, state, and federal agencies.


A highlight of the morning was the acknowledgement of West Caldwell Police Department Officer Michael Orr (center) by (left to right) Jerry Speziale, Sheriff, Passaic County, and Edward Jimenez, Vice President, Physician Practices & Ambulatory Services, SJHS, for his lifesaving actions and for upholding the highest traditions of law enforcement and public service. Officer Orr was presented with a 'Letter of Commendation' on behalf of St. Joseph's Healthcare System due to his rapid and professional response to the recent shooting of a fellow officer. The medical treatment that Officer Orr provided saved the life of Fairfield Police Officer Gerald Veneziano after he was wounded by gunfire.

SJHS Rose Nagle-Girgenti Honored

Rose Nagle-GirgentiPaterson, NJ [March 16, 2010]– Rose Nagle-Girgenti, MA, RN-BC, Director, Center for Education and Development, St. Joseph's Healthcare System, will be honored on March 21st at the 9th Annual Dean McNulty Award Dinner hosted by the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Paterson.


Rose was selected for the honor due to her profound faith and the leadership she has demonstrated in her chosen career of health care and in her extensive civic involvement. She has been a dedicated member of the St. Joseph's staff for the past 30 years, working in a variety of leadership roles and positions. In her current position as Director of the Center for Education and Development, Rose serves the educational needs of approximately 5,000 employees at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center/St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Paterson, St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital in Wayne, and St. Vincent's Nursing Home in Cedar Grove.


She has received many professional awards, among them St. Joseph's Healthcare System's AWL Star (Employee of the Month), the New Jersey State Nurses Association award for excellence in nursing administration, the American Legion award for community service, a Congressional salute from Congressman Robert A. Roe, and a Partnership Award from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station.


Rose graduated from St. Mary Hospital School of Nursing, Hoboken. She also earned a bachelor's degree in health education from New Jersey City University, Jersey City, and a master's degree in professional education from Seton Hall University, South Orange.
