PATERSON, NJ (APRIL 20, 2009)- Over 100 attendees from 12 different institutions across New Jersey gathered recently at the Passaic County Public Safety Academy in Wayne for the 'First Annual Emergency Medicine Symposium' presented by St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, NJ. Over the course of two days, attendees were educated on topics such as new trends in emergency medicine; options in neurological, pediatric facial, and ophthalmological trauma; advances in Emergency Ultrasound, Sepsis, Trauma, CPR; and changing requirements for Geriatric Care, among others.


Participants - physicians, nurses, medical residents, and paramedics - benefited from the knowledge of 15 St. Joseph's physician-experts, as well as keynote speaker David H. Newman, MD, Director, Clinical Research Program, Columbia University and Department of Emergency Medicine, St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, New York.


Two hands-on mini sessions, Fundamentals of Emergency Ultrasound and Advance Airway: High Fidelity Simulation Lab, were also offered in addition to the lecture presentations.

sjrmc_social_worker_of_the_yearPATERSON, NJ (APRIL 20, 2009)- A highlight of Social Work Month at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center was the 9th Annual Social Work Day Celebration. The event included the announcement of the recipient of the 2009 Mary Faillace Social Worker of the Year Award, Susanne Palombo, LCSW.


Susanne began working at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in 2003 at the Starlight Program. She is currently the Assistant Director of the Harbor House Partial Hospitalization Program, a position she has held for the past 2 years. Susanne received her Bachelor's degree from James Madison University and her Masters of Social Work from Barry University. She is fluent in Spanish, Haitian, Creole and French. Her career has taken her to Guatemala, Jamaica, Haiti, France and various states in the United States. Susanne's colleagues nominated her stating that she was born to be a social worker and that she is able to empower others and give them hope.

st._patricks_day_2009_003PATERSON, NJ [MARCH 31, 2009]- The 248th Annual New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade honored the Sisters of Charity in recognition of the 200th Anniversary of their founding in the United States by Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.


This year was the first time the Sisters marched as their own contingent. Over 600 people marched in the Sisters of Charity contingent, which included members of our own St. Joseph's family.


September 29, 2009 marks the 150th Anniversary of the New Jersey branch of the Sisters of Charity (of Saint Elizabeth), the founders and sponsors of St. Joseph's Healthcare System.


SJHS Earns Quality Respiratory Care Recognition

William McDonald Speaks at ConferencePATERSON, NJ (MARCH 24, 2009) - William McDonald, President and Chief Executive Officer, St. Joseph's Healthcare System, traveled to New Delhi, India where he served as a featured guest speaker at The Commemorative International Workshop held in early March. Mr. McDonald presented an overview of the "Impact of Global Recession on Health Care & Medical Education - The World Over".
