PATERSON, NJ (APRIL 29, 2009) - Jill S. Menell, MD, Chief, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, St. Joseph's Children's Hospital at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, was honored by Healing the Children® Midlantic (HTC) at its 28th Annual Gala, "Celebrating the Magic of Healing" on April 25, 2009 at The Birchwood Manor in Whippany, New Jersey. Dr. Menell received The Sergio Award, which is conferred upon a volunteer whose dedication, time and compassion have helped to change the life of a child in need. She has volunteered with HTC for many years, donating her time and skills to the world's neediest children.
Dr. Menell is Board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. In addition to her responsibilities at St. Joseph's, Dr. Menell, an expert in the study and treatment of blood disorders and cancers in infants, children and adolescents, is also assistant professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.
Dr. Menell received her medical degree from the State University of New York - Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn (Downstate Medical Center) in Brooklyn, New York. She completed both a Fellowship and Special Fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center/Cornell University Medical College in New York, New York. She also completed a Clinical Fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Kings County Hospital/University Hospital of Brooklyn, New York where she served as Chief Resident and fulfilled her Residency requirement. Dr. Menell is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
