PATERSON, NJ (MARCH 24, 2009) - William McDonald, President and Chief Executive Officer, St. Joseph's Healthcare System, traveled to New Delhi, India where he served as a featured guest speaker at The Commemorative International Workshop held in early March. Mr. McDonald presented an overview of the "Impact of Global Recession on Health Care & Medical Education - The World Over".
"I was honored to speak at this prestigious international forum, an intense two-day event that focused on Quality Based Medical Education and was sponsored by the Medical Council of India," said Mr. McDonald who is the Chairman of the New Jersey Council of Teaching Hospitals and leads St. Joseph's Healthcare System, one of New Jersey's major academic medical centers. The other American dignitary featured at the event was the Chief Executive Officer of the American Medical Association, Dr. Michael Maves.
Including the CEO of the American Medical Association and Mr. McDonald, other guest speakers for the two-day workshop included Dr. Otmar Kloiber, Secretary General of the World Medical Association, France; Mrs. Panabaka Lakshmi, State Minister for Health & F.W., Ministry of Health & F.W., Nirman Bhavan, New Delhi; Dr. M. Ian Bowner, Executive Director, Medical Council of Canada and Dr. John Campbell, President, Medical Council of New Zealand.
The workshop included the international health topics of Autonomy - Inevitable for Regulatory/Statutory Councils and Quality Based Medical Education and included twenty guest speakers.
