National assessments of student achievement indicate that boys score five to seven points lower than girls in fourth grade reading tests and as many as 17 points lower in writing. Why are boys lagging behind? Is it gender or socio-economic influences? What are the factors that contribute to this gender gap in academic achievement? Mr. Belsky will discuss the impact of gender, socioeconomic, racial and cultural influences on boys' school success and examine the dynamics of boys who fall behind in school. He will describe risk factors and offer a range of therapeutic and socio-dynamic strategies to enable boys to reach their full potential.
