The St. Joseph's Feeding & Swallowing Approach: Learn and Practice

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, including the lecture and demonstration, the participant will be able to:

• Recognize the multidisciplinary team approach to feeding and its benefits to the client.
• Identify and practice specific treatment modalities you can use with your clients following this course.
• Understand the benefits of Telemedicine for continuum of care across all clients' settings.
• Identify medical and health professionals who can contribute to feeding treatment.
• Recognize the most appropriate seating equipment for children with feeding difficulties.

This conference will explore the important influences on feeding: medical, oral motor, motor/ seating, behavioral, and family. Evaluation of feeding problems and appropriate treatment will be discussed through case example. Breakout sessions will enable attendees practice in treating food refusal, oral initiation, food selectivity, and failure to advance texture. Telemedicine will be presented, followed by a live appointment with a former client. The conference will conclude with the audience's challenging feeding cases for open discussion and recommendations.

In the afternoon of March 22nd, the Pediatric Feeding Team will review interesting feeding cases that were submitted by audience members. Submitting a case is an opportunity for you to gain collaborative insight and promote audience participation. Include and send a full medical history, developmental history, and areas of concern as well as a DVD of the child eating and engaging in gross motor play to:

Send in this information by March 1, 2013. The team will review all submitted cases prior to the conference, and choose the most appropriate ones. We apologize in advance if your case is not one to be chosen for presentation, but we'd be happy to discuss with you our thoughts and recommendations afterwards. Cost of conference is $300. There is a group rate of $275 for 3 or more people. The student rate is $120 with a chairman letter.

Cancellation Policy:

Registration fee, less $75, will be refunded if written cancellation is received prior to 3/14/13. No refund will be given after that date. If this conference is cancelled, liability will be limited to tuition cost. If there are any complaints/concerns before, during, or after the conference, the Clinical Director at the Center for Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing will be available for discussion.
