According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, more than one third of children and adolescents are either overweight or obese. The national epidemic of childhood obesity may be impacted by parents' failure to recognize the risk to their children. Wellness programs must address both the child and the family and incorporate the Choose My Plate and Let's Move Initiatives. Dr. Pula will describe how a school-based wellness program that involves the child and family, incorporates behavior modifications techniques and promotes healthy eating and regular physical activity can improve outcomes.
