A leader in surgical services, St. Joseph’s Health offers highly skilled personalized surgical specialty care dedicated to the treatment of a full spectrum of injuries, illnesses and disorders.
Each year, St. Joseph’s Health provides more than 13,000 routine and highly complex procedures to patients of all ages – newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients – who require or seek surgical intervention to maintain or restore an optimum level of wellness.
Our experienced multi-disciplinary Surgical Services Department team is comprised of Board-certified physicians – surgeons and anesthesiologists, Residents and Fellows – nurses, technicians, clinical specialists and administrative staff. An emphasis on teamwork, with collaboration among physicians, staff, patients and their families, helps to ensure the highest quality of care.
St. Joseph’s maintains a medical staff of more than 200 surgeons in various specialties who provide services on both an inpatient and outpatient basis using traditional and state-of-the-art techniques.
The Surgical Services staff provides quality-conscious, competent and cost effective care with respect for life and dignity.
Whether our surgical patients receive treatments as inpatients or in the Same Day Care Centers at both hospital campuses, they benefit from the wide range of services available throughout St. Joseph’s Health. Support services include social services, dietary, physical/occupational/speech therapy as well as advanced diagnostic services such as EKG, Radiology, Laboratory and other diagnostic services offered.
Comprehensive surgical services are available in a total of 19 advanced systems integrated operating rooms located at both St. Joseph’s Health hospital campuses: St. Joseph’s University Medical Center/St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson, NJ, and St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center, a division of St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center located in Wayne, NJ. St. Joseph’s University Medical Center is a state designated level two trauma center and all 15 operating room at the medical center are open 24/7.
St. Joseph’s Health surgical teams utilize the latest technologies including the navigation system, state-of-the-art microscopes, leading edge HD endoscopic systems, specialized operating room tables, and HD telemedicine capabilities.
Patients are scheduled at either campus depending on the type of surgery needed.
St. Joseph’s University Medical Center is a teaching hospital affiliated with several medical schools including Seton Hall University and St. George’s University, as well as Nursing programs affiliated with William Paterson University, Passaic and Bergen Community Colleges.
