Clinical Nutrition Services

St. Joseph’s Department of Clinical Nutrition Services coincides with the Healthcare System’s mission, vision, and values by providing therapeutic nutritional care and services to our patients, family members, physicians, and employees. The Department is led by an expert Registered Dietitian, who specializes in hospital nutrition and healthcare administration.

The Clinical Nutrition team serves as a nutrition resource for all areas of the healthcare system.  The Department comprises of licensed Registered Dietitians with expertise in all clinical facets of Medical Nutrition Therapy.  Clinical nutrition interventions include nutrition screening, assessment, reassessment, and education (individual and group) for acute and chronic diseases across the age spectrum. Nutrition care plans are individualized for patients and evaluate clinical diagnoses, physical examination, diet history, nutritional adequacy, behavioral/psychosocial status, and cultural/religious preferences.

The Department of Clinical Nutrition bases its standards and practices on recognized guidelines set-forth by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, National Kidney Foundation, the American Diabetes Association, the Association for Healthcare Foodservice, and the American Hospital Association. In addition, guidelines are based upon the Department of Health and Human Services, the NJ Department of Health- Chapter 24 regulations, and Det Norske Veritas (DNV) accreditation standards.

“Giving back” to the community is an important component of the Department’s mission. Our team of specialized Dietitians provides nutrition education for various local, community programs. We are affiliated with numerous academic organizations, while serving as preceptors for post-graduate dietetic interns and culinary students who are embarking upon their nutrition-related careers.

St. Joseph’s Department of Clinical Nutrition Services strives for excellence. Our goal is to exceed customer expectations with our team-approached, clinical expertise and exceptional service to our patients.
